Majorelle Gardens

A sweltering and dusty side road, colours washed out in majorelle gardensthe intense sun and away from the hustle of Djemaa el Fnaa and the smells and sights of the central souks. A high wall and a single doorway. You enter a calm courtyard, shaded with vines and containing a cooling central pool. You don't tarry long as beyond the next arch is one of the wonders of the city. A botanical garden, lush and luxuriant, rigidly laid out with rare plants from many parts of the world, intersected by ornate paths and pools.

And in the centre an extraordinary block of colour glimpsed through the many shades of green. A cobalt blue so intense that once you have seen it, you will always describe it as Majorelle Blue.
